Queen Machine - Azacca is the first entry in our series exploring concentrated lupulin pellets! During sensory analysis, we found these hops to be incredibly expressive with true to type character and no vegetal or abrasive notes whatsoever. The beer pours a beautiful hazy yellow, and expresses concentrated notes of pulpy orange juice, sun-kissed tropical fruits, and overripe clementine. Queen Machine - Azacca carves out a distinctive and highly enjoyable space in our line up. We hope you enjoy!

Poured from a can (16Jul2021) into a TH teku #properglassware

L: pours a completely opaque but dark orange (not that creamy, lighter kind of haze) with a large, slightly off-white head that slowly fades over a few minutes - leaves large, chunky lacing as it does

S: nose is that slightly sweeter, gummy candy-style tropical fruit aroma. It’s inviting but weirdly lacks any discernible notes (to me) - it’s just this “fruit” note. Recall my first can from a few weeks ago offering a bit more, figure the ~2 months taking it’s toll. Not bad mind you, just muddled. Pick out some peach, sweeter citrus

T: follows the nose, a solid fruit flavor but again it’s rather one-note. Mix of that gummy tropical fruit character, thinking melon/mango/peach. Some citrusy orange/grapefruit as well, makes for some pleasant bitterness through the medium- finish. It’s a nice, flavorful swallow that just lacks that extra something

F: medium body, medium carbonation. Easy drinking, lighter feel than some other TH DIPAs

O: bit perplexed by this one. A easy drinking, solid beer that just kinda meh by TH standards. Don’t mind sipping it while watching tv, but don’t think I’ll be seeking it out again

16oz can dated 7/16/21.

Pours cloudy gold with an inch of white head. Plenty of smeared lacing with persistent retention. Pungently hoppy in the nose with pear, peach, and cantaloupe. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Earthy citrus on the palate with minimal malt or bitterness. Honeydew, pear, and melons. Finishes fairly dry with lingering pithy citrus.

My first thought is that this is about as similar to Juice Machine as Trump is to Biden. To put a JM label on this erodes my trust in Treehouse as it seems like a play to sell beers using the stellar reputation of Juice Machine.

I'd say that this was the second worst TH beer I ever had. I'm worried that all these experimental beers are going to slip TH down in terms of folks wanting them. The world has caught up to TH in some regard and now local microbreweries are brewing beer on par with Haze, Julius and Typhoon. The IPA world has not caught up to the King Julius or Juice Machines, which is some of the best beer on the planet.

The taste of this is similar to the smell ... lots of cracker and yeast. It has a dull skunky taste (canned 1 week ago, so that wasn't the issue) The hop blend on this is devoid of the typical citrus flavors. It was a flat stew of yeasty blah ... the description on the website says the hop variety takes all the bitter out and makes it one of the smoothest TH beers. I disagree. It wasn't bitter, per say, but more skunky/dank. Maybe spoiled fruit would be a better description.

Harsh review for sure ... but at $20.50 for a 4 pack, I'm just going to give the other 3 away. This is the second undrinkable TH beer I've bought and would caution the brewery that at $20+ ... a few more misses and I'm sticking to the staples. Treehouse is hands down one of the best breweries in the country, if not the world. I understand that in this day and age, you can't stand still. But at the same time by using your big brand names to sell other non-similar beers and offering $20+ experiments, that could backfire quickly.
