Nascent Truth is a pure barrel-aged expression of Truth assembled from three standout Elijah Craig barrels aged ten months. It is a remarkably rich beer that masterfully weaves a potent young barrel character with a chocolate-forward base beer in a way we have not yet captured from our program.

Pouring like chocolate syrup in the glass, Nascent Truth is a bounty of bourbon, vanilla, fudge, cocoa, and sugar cookies. Relish it now or let it evolve cold for several years before opening—enjoy!

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like rich and decadent dark chocolate fudge, nuttiness, vanilla, oak, caramel, and cookie dough.

This is just yet another wonderful barrel aged stout from Tree House – they have become consistently high quality in this area. There’s lots of barrel, adding char and vanilla, and some caramel, alongside a seriously fudgy base stout. It’s seriously super chocolatey in a wonderful way.

This is thick, but not too syrupy, with no real booziness.

This is highly enjoyable, and one of my favorite stouts that I’ve had yet from Tree House.

12oz waxed cap bottle courtesy of Rub_ThisBBQ. I'd forgotten it at the back of the fridge, to my embarrassment.

Poured into a nonic pint glass. So dark brown as to be almost black. A finger of dark mocha foam for a head. Spotty lace.

Bourbon aroma first and foremost. Vanillaish oaky notes. Initially a bit of a soy sauce like aroma that fades out as it warms and a brown sugary sweetness becomes noticeable in it's place.

Taste is similar to the nose, but it's more complex. Again, there's the whiskey flavor from the bourbon barrel aging, front and center. Things are sweeter than in the nose, however. There's a slightly chocolatey, slightly caramel sweetness that follows the bourbon flavor. There's also a bit of dark fruit flavor lingering in the background.

Full bodied, with a heavy, creamy mouth feel, like a liquid dessert.

Yeah, liquid dessert is a great description. Drinking this is a very pleasant post dinner luxury tonight. It's not something I'd want anymore than 12 oz of at a sitting, but I'm very happy to have that 12 oz, and there's a good chance I'll miss it tomorrow night when it's gone.

On tap at the source. An excellent barrel aged stout, free of unnecessary adjuncts and with an immense, velvety mouthfeel. Sweet, sticky, and decadent.

Had on tap at Sandwich. Pours opaque, dark brown in color with one half inch head. Taste is big brown sugar, barrel, and fudge. Sweet, low carbonation, heavy body. I usually criticize Tree stouts for being too sweet. In this case, it really adds to the beer in the fact that it takes some of the bite off the barrel. Boozy but still not harsh and easy to drink. Right up there with the bestow their barrel program.

Thick, rich, chewy and just unbelievable. Incredible in every aspect. SO good. Thankful to have an opportunity to try it. Chocolate, vanilla, sticky, slightly sweet, fudge and bourbon. Very well balanced.

Thanks Geglash.

A- Pours like midnight into a becher. Dark cocoa brown head to a finger with nice retention. Webs of lacing.

S- That signature Elijah Craig aroma with spicy whiskey, sweet Bourbon oak, peppery, caramel and vanilla notes. Heavy barrel balanced by rich fudge, bitter barley, roast and booze notes.

T- A nice bittersweet balance between the sugars and the roast grains. Pure roast barley, caramel, vanilla, whiskey, espresso, sticky barrel room Bourbon wood, slight booze and peppery notes.

MF- Thick and oily body with a puffy and slick consistency. Carbonation is moderately low and ends quite warm to hot.

Damn. Love the barrel, sweet and booze balance. Too much sweetness in the stout world today and this is a beer that showcases amazing harmony between barrel and base brew.

Pours like a double espresso - a lot of light gets through as it pours, but it sits jet black in the glass. As you swirl, the glass gets coated, and a thin brown head forms around the edges. Barrel has really robbed this of head retention, but that’s expected.

Fresh out of the bottle, the nose was huge. Tons of oaky bourbon, coconut and dark chocolate. As it opens and warms, the nose fades a bit.. which I found odd.

Flavors of rich, dark brownies with oak-derived coconut, and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. The level of barrel in this beer is pretty impressive for 10 months. Must have been some serious temperature variations during the aging process to generate this level of barrel influence. Finishes with a very subtle dark chocolate bitterness. Super balanced.

Drinks dense, and finishes with a boozy burn that reminds you this isn’t a standard beer. It’s something much more.
