Vanilla Bean Aftermath is the revival of a pure Imperial Stout brewed with chocolate. It features a complex assortment of malts and is brewed with milk chocolate during every stage of the brewing process. After finishing on vanilla beans, it pours like chocolate syrup and carries intense notes of dark chocolate, vanilla cookies, roasted malts, and an appropriate balancing bitterness. Last released in 2012, Aftermath is a beer that bridges our past with our present—it enables us to reflect on our past while aspiring to improve and evolve in the future. Cherish, & enjoy!

16 oz can poured into a snifter. Pours pitch black with a dark tan head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma and flavor feature a huge wave of milk chocolate, sweet vanilla, dark roasted malts, alcohol, and low-to-moderate bitterness. Fairly sweet but not cloying. The alcohol is more noticeable than in most TH imperial stouts, but not in an unpleasant way. If I was drinking this 10 years ago, I probably would have thought it was one of the best beers ever, but today, it's not in the upper tier. And I think that's more or less the point of releasing this beer again. Very cool, and I'm glad I got to try this very tasty beer.

Had on tap at Sandwich. Pours opaque, dark black in color with 3/4 inch head. Taste is big vanilla, dark chocolate roast, and toasted malt. Heavy body, sweet, low carbonation. I like this one as there is a lot of great stout taste here. Some Tree stouts can be overly sweet but this does not approach that. A sipper and a good one at that.

16 oz can.

Pitch black pour with a massive sudsy dark mocha head. Good retention for the style. Leaves some splotchy lacing.

Aromas of vanilla, chocolate cake, cookie dough, light coffee and roasted malts.

The flavor follows the nose, but adds a bit of dark fruit character. Extremely decadent, like devil's food cake and chocolate ice cream with some cherries on top.

The feel is full-bodied with lower carbonation. Sticky, syrupy and faintly boozy.

Overall, this is a great imperial stout. I'm not sure if they had a vanilla bean version of this beer 10 years ago, but I doubt they had any beer this thick and decadent.
