Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Tree House Brewing Company, Charlton, MA
03/23/23
Served in a tulip

Solid appearance. A frothy, inch-tall, mocha colored crown rose above the oily looking, jet black body. The head was fizzy and lively and dissolved rather quickly. A thin collar encircled the liquid. Some spotty and streaky lacing stuck along the glass after each sip.

The aroma was a bit disappointing. The peanut presence was definitely quite prominent, but it reminded me more of circus peanut candies than the real thing. Salted peanuts and buttered popcorn also came to mind. Dark chocolate notes were apparent as well. Good dose of brown sugar sweetness too. With time, the dark chocolate intensified.

The flavor profile also fell a bit short of my expectations. Malty up front. Big roasted malt presence. Bit of caramel malt sweetness as well. The peanut butter presence was also apparent here, but it was definitely more subtle. Like the nose, however, it seemed somewhat artificial. Moderate amount of brown sugar sweetness in the center. Perhaps some roasted cocoa nibs. More roastiness on the back end and the finish. Touch of lingering, espresso-like char and bitterness after the swallow.

The mouthfeel was definitely the most impressive aspect of the beer. It was fuller bodied. Rich and oily with a fine, moderate effervescence. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate.

The peanut butter notes in this beer seemed rather artificial, and the roast level was more than I typically prefer for this style. Although I used to be a big fan of Tree House’s imperial milk stouts, it seems that there are better options on the market now for less money.

Pours opaque, jet black in color with one third inch head. Taste is big baker's chocolate, coffee, white sugar, Bosco and peanut butter. Heavy body, low carbonation, bitter. Good beer. Really need to drink this warm, not chilled. Peanut butter really comes out that way. Beforehand this was average, once warm, Excellent. Could use a bit less coffee but a tasty imperial stout.

Picked-up two cans at Tree House in Sandwich for about sixteen dollars. My three hundred and fifth brew from these guys. Canned on date of 3/23/23. Good beer, taste is a bit muted, very expensive.
