Life is complicated, and is often in need of a beverage of equal complication. Coffee, bourbon, sweetness and savor all collide in a beer that's the flavor of truth.
Like used motor oil, Tree House's Truth & Coffee pours ominouly black and with a tepid espresso creme. As a robust perfume of whisky, sherry, cocoa and coffee rolls off the rim, the first sip leans in with blackstrap molasses, dark chocolate, brown sugar and buckwheat honey.
With the stout saturating the tastebuds with utter ease, the sweeter tone is set for the duration. As more earthen tones of oak, coffee, campfire and burnt sugars add a spicy and brazen set of complexities, there's a natural fruitiness that carry and sherry and madiera character into a plump and warming finish.
Full bodied, pleasantly cloying and slathering the late palate in dessert-like effects, the session is a sharable one best enjoyed as an after dinner treat or paired with strong cheeses and assorted nuts.

Minimal head production.
Very strong and rich aroma. Early on, the aroma is dominated by the bourbon and a rich malt base, with notes of chocolate and molasses taking lead. Over time, the coffee presence grows, a rich, dark blend that complements the rest of the beer very well.
Flavor follows. The coffee is present, but definitely a complementary note - this is not a coffee bomb. Slight sourness from the bourbon and perhaps even the coffee, but not unpleasantly so. Super thick and rich. Tasting notes of coffee, bourbon, oak, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, cream, cherry. Very, very little heat from the ABV or even the barrel influence.
Absolutely delectable BBA imperial coffee stout. It's not quite sweet enough to demand being treated as a dessert beer, but it's super rich nonetheless, and is certainly a slow sipper.
