For our 12th Anniversary Stout, we dug deep into our barrel archives for select stand-out barrels representing our program's best efforts. This blend contains a single five year old expression of Truth blended with a different thread of Truth that was double-barreled and aged for over 24 months.
At Tree House, we believe incremental gains in quality, structure, and complexity are infinite in the art and science of crafting our barrel-aged beer, and our 12th Anniversary Stout represents our current progress.
As our barrel program matures, so too do the quality of our offerings. This stout represents the best of our efforts to date, and yet the best is still to come. Take a moment to celebrate with us - we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed the fulfillment that comes from crafting it.

Thicker would be better but, I’m splitting hairs here. OUTSTANDING!

Drank from a 750ml black wax dipped bottle purchased at Tree House Brewing Company, Tewksbury, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured super a super oily and viscous, obsidian black hue. Even with a fairly aggressive pour, there was absolutely no head nor any lacing. After each sip, thick, drippy legs trickled down the sides of the glass.
The aroma was outstanding. It was uber malty and robust with big roasted malt and charred grain notes. Loads of boozy bourbon barrel character as well. Burnt caramel and toffee notes also came through strong. Excellent balance of roasty and sweet. Dark fruits were also quite prominent. Charred raisin and black currant notes were most apparent. There was an interesting Port wine or Madeira quality too. Fresh vanilla bean was also noticeable. The vanilla and the overall sweetness really intensified as the liquid warmed.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose and just as impressive. Super malty and robust up front. Nice melding of roasted and caramel malt notes and charred grains. Burnt caramel was noticeable as well. Boozy bourbon barrel notes appeared in the center and intensified as the liquid moved along the palate. For 16% ABV, the alcohol was punchy but expected. Dark chocolate was noticeable as well. Dark fruit notes came through strong on the back end and in the finish. Charred raisins and black currants were most prominent. Like in the nose, there was pleasant Port wine or Madeira presence too. More boozy bourbon barrel character on the back end and in the finish. Hint of vanilla as well.
The mouthfeel was outstanding. It was incredibly oily and dense. Completely full bodied for the style. The liquid contained a super fine, subtle effervescence that tuned creamy and smooth on the palate. After a few sips, the sugars in the beer deposited a sticky film on my lips.
Tree House might be best known for their amazing IPAs and adjuncted pastry stouts, but when their pure barrel-aged stouts are on point, there is truly nothing better.
