The magic of terroir—the environmental conditions, especially soil, and climate, in which hops are grown and give a hop their unique flavor and aroma—continues to enthrall us at Tree House.
To illustrate the difference between region and growing conditions, we have begun the Many Ways series, which seeks to brew single-hop beers with hops sourced from specific growing regions and farms.
Part Two contains Nelson Sauvin, grown exclusively by our friends at Eggers Hops in the Upper Moutere region of New Zealand's South Island. Eggers Hops has an enigmatic quality that is so punchy and unique that it's hard to understand without visiting his farm. They grow in difficult soil conditions, and the resulting stress produces a unique, vibrant Nelson expression.
We hope you enjoy it and compare it to other entries forthcoming in the series!

Pours the usual dense orange colour, plenty of head and lacing. It's getting fun seeing how far above the rim of the glass I can get the head to go
Smell is unambiguous nelson. Punchy diesel and grassy white grape.
Taste is the same. Maybe 4.25 is unfair because of well they get the nelson, but I can't bring myself to give it 4.5.
Feel is great and rich as usual.

Well done, I suppose, but too dank for me.

L - pours a pale greenish straw yellow. You can see the hops from here. Some decent-looking legs on this one with good retention.
S - fresh, herbal, and sticky. Nelson comes blasting through, imparting vinous notes of white wine and pithy, meaty grapes. The big ones. You know the ones I'm talking about. The ones that are semi-uncomfortable to chew through because it's so big (that's what she said).
T - more of the same. Massive white grape character mixed with kalamata olives. Mealy hops with such potent flavor as if chewing on these little eggies. Warm and cozy as the booze creeps through the warming glass. Subtle melon and a ripe stone fruit character. Perhaps some peach hidden amongst the sweaty mess of decadent hops.
F - smooth and gentle, but powerful in stature. This is a commanding beer. Light electrical tingles that wake you up as this beer toys with your emotions.
O - I love Nelson. Let's get that out of the way. The grape must is out in full force with this one. Would probably pair well with a nice Pinot Grigio.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
