The magic of terroir—the environmental conditions, especially soil and climate, in which hops are grown and give a hop their unique flavor and aroma—continues to enthrall us at Tree House.
To illustrate the difference between region and growing conditions, we have begun the Many Ways series, which seeks to brew single-hop beers with hops sourced from specific growing regions and farms.
This rendition contains Nelson Sauvin, grown exclusively by our friends at Clayton Hops in the Upper Moutere region of New Zealand’s South Island. Clayton Hops has an enigmatic quality that is so punchy and unique that it’s hard to understand without visiting his farm. They grow in a remote area of the South Island (so remote you have to drive through a river to get there), far removed from other farms, and this shows in the singular quality of their hops.
We hope you enjoy it and compare it to other entries forthcoming in the series!

One of the Nelson Many Ways series of DIPAs that were released either 2024 or 2025. Somehow I missed the Clayton Hops version, so here it is. Poured from a 16 oz can (packaged 3/11/26) into a Sensorik goblet.
Bright yellow-orange color, full on haze, but a slight translucence, the beer glows when held to the light. An inch of white head, settles to a solid ring and thin film of foam on the surface. Nice rings of lace left on the glass.
Strong aroma of passion fruit, along with notes of white grape and orange. It has a sweet note a bit like candied fruit.
Flavors of passion fruit, white grape, a bit of citrus fruit. There is a mild bitterness, with a flavor reminiscent of citrus peel.
Medium body with good softness on the palate.
I am really enjoying this one. Fruit forward on both aroma and palate, and a good long finish. It was the strong passion fruit presence in this beer that led to my high ratings for smell and taste, as I love it when an IPA has this note and it's so rare.

Picked up a four pack of cans at Tree House in Sandwich, Massachusetts for about twenty dollars. My three hundred and fifty fourth brew from these guys. Very good, very expensive.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
