Nascent Truth Double Coconut is a pure barrel-aged expression of Truth assembled from several standout barrels, aged for just over a year, and then conditioned upon hundreds of pounds of coconut. It is a remarkably rich beer that masterfully weaves a potent young barrel character with a chocolate-forward base, and then explodes with unapologetic waves of intense coconut flavor. Pouring like chocolate syrup in the glass, Nascent Truth Double Coconut is a bounty of coconut fudge, bourbon, vanilla, and creamy cocoa character. Relish it now or let it evolve cold for several years before opening.

Drank from a 12 Fl. Oz. bronze wax dipped bottle purchased at Tree House Brewing Company, Charlton, MA
Vintage Autumn 2024
Served in a tulip
Big thanks to my dad for grabbing me this beer.
The beer poured an insanely viscous pitch black hue and reminded me of used motor oil. There was no head nor any lacing whatsoever. As the liquid was swirled, a thick yellow film coated the glass.
The aroma was a bit muted initially but improved considerably after a few minutes. It was super malty and robust with an intense brown sugar-like sweetness. Blackstrap molasses was also noticeable. Touch of savory-ness. Chocolate brownie batter also came to mind. Loads of fragrant vanilla too. The bourbon presence was noticeable but not quite as intense as I anticipated. Fresh coconut notes appeared as the beer warmed. Later, the coconut presence intensified, as did the overall sweetness.
The flavor profile was a bit rough initially. Both the booze and the roast were much more prominent than I anticipated. Burnt caramel came to mind. Lots of rich roasted malt character up front. There was a slight tanginess too which hinted that some oxidation may have been present. A touch of coconut was noticeable as beer moved along palate. Nice chocolate fudge character too. Loads of bourbony booziness in the center. Chocolate fudge and/or chocolate syrup was noticeable here as well. The bourbon and alcohol heat crescendoed on the back end and in the finish. More booziness and a touch of acrid char lingered after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was spectacular. It was amazingly dense and slick, like used motor oil. The liquid contained an ultra fine, mellow, tongue blanketing effervescence that gave the beer an amazing suppleness on the palate.
Nascent Truth - Double Coconut was an enjoyable barrel-aged pastry stout, but given the hype surround the base beer and the sky-high ratings, I was definitely expecting more from it. Although the label states that this beer is suitable for aging, I think a fresher bottle may have yielded a punchier coconut presence and fewer of the roasty and tangy notes that seemed to hint at a mild infection.

Vintage = Autumn 2024: Pours as black as old motor oil with a small brown head that faded in average time and left minimal lacing. Smells of dark chocolate and coconut up front, like a Mounds candy bar. Aroma has fudge, burnt coffee grinds, Hershey’s chocolate syrup and some faint vanilla. It smells terrific! Tastes like it smells with dark chocolate, huge coconut, vanilla, fudge, Mounds candy bar, hot fudge, burnt coffee grinds, soy sauce, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, hints of bourbon, cocoa powder, caramel, and smoked malts. Even though the coconut is very prominent, the overall taste is not sweet. The alcohol is very well masked and this is a great slow sipper.
This was a world class brew for me, one of my favorite craft combinations and worth every penny!

Had on tap at Charlton. Pours opaque, jet black in color withone inch frothy head. Taste is huge coconut, milk chocolate, white sugar and barrel. Heavy bodied, low carbonation, sweet but not cloying. A must for any coconut lover. Layers of flavor. Wow

This is the a drink of the gods, a flourless chocolate tort, truly liquid dessert. Black, heavy, super dark thin head. Smooth as silk, sweet, rich coconut, chocolate, bourbon. Full body, silky thick mouth feel, aftertaste is outstanding as well. I will be stocking up on these, when I can, for aging and fresh. It is outstanding.

Sweet milk chocolate, coconut macaroons, and a vanilla-bourbon barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with a thicc yet soft, chocolate and creamy coconut, and a balanced but a touch boozy, bourbon barrel finish. Good!
