Truth is the ultimate expression of Tree House Barrel-aged stout. Masterfully blended from our best barrels aged between eighteen and twenty-six months old, it carries notes of chocolate candy, sweet vanilla-like oak, tootsie rolls, and baker’s chocolate. It’s elegant, balanced, and intentional—a testament to the artistry and patience poured into each barrel. To elevate this character to new heights, we’ve crafted a limited run of Moment of Truth Coffee. This variation was brewed with literal buckets of maple syrup and then conditioned on some of our favorite roasts. Moment of Truth Coffee is reminiscent of after-dinner coffee sugared with dark maple syrup–perfect to fuel conversation deep into the night.

Poured from a 25oz bottle into pint glass in March 2025. I do not see a bottled on date (just a code stamped on the bottle), but I drank this about 1 week after purchasing the bottle at the Tree House brew pub in Tewksbury.
Appearance: As with many imperial stouts, very dark black with almost no head. Head lasted only a minute. It leaves only a little lacing on the glass, and ended with no head around the beer. Head bubbles were very fine.
Smell: Strong aroma of bourbon, chocolate, and licorice. There is also some coffee, maple syrup, vanilla, and some other sweet aroma, but overall the bourbon and chocolate dominate the others. It is a very nice balance of aromas, and good contrast.
Taste: There is a nice balance between the chocolate, bourbon, and maple syrup flavors. There are some coffee flavors, some caramel, vanilla, and a little amount of bitter hop flavors to enhance the taste and add some complexity. There is a strong alcohol presence, but it is balanced nicely by the sweetness. The taste is a good mix.
Mouth-feel: Thick like liquid licorice, but with a smooth body.
This is a very good, complex Imperial Stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. Although this is a big beer, it is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. This maple syrup sweetness nicely contrasts the bourbon flavor, and is a nice balance to the alcohol. This reminds me a lot of Founder's CBS and KBS stouts, which are some of my favorite beers. Also, very similar to Persevere & Persist (not surprisingly) but without any coconut flavors. At $45 for a 25oz bottle, I just wish it was not so expensive. Another excellent beer by Tree House.
