(German-style Marzenbier, 5.3%, 16oz) Patient Whisper is our German-style Märzenbier that undergoes extended conditioning in our lager cellar. Brewed with German Pilsner, Munich, Cara Munich, and Vienna malts, it is fermented cool with a traditional Marzen yeast. Its long rest in stainless results in a striking clarity, softness in character, and tight carbonation with sticky meringue-like foam. Furthermore, the warm notes of caramel and toasted bread from its complex malt bill are present in rare form from this slow and patient technique

16oz can poured into a thin snifter.
A: Pours a brilliant red-orange color with great clarity. Cream-colored heard is lively and bubbly with a softer pillowy look. Great retention, spotty and clumpy lacing.
S: Portuguese sweet bread, bit of treacle, toasty grain, maybe a bit of caramel apple shell. Hop notes are soft and floral with a bit of green grass. A faint hint of oily/herbal spice with time and warmth. Just the faintest suggestion of nutty yeast.
T: Portuguese sweet bread up front. Caramel and some richer toffee/nutty notes. Treacle. Grainy toast pulls through. Vague fruit skins and stewed fruits. Nutty/musty yeast, for a brief second. Hops are moderate with earth and oily/herbal bitterness. Almost chicory-like, for a moment. Dry finish is brief and easy, with quickly fading caramel, grain, and steely/herbal hop bitterness.
M: Medium-full body. Very full, round, and lush. There is some firmness and weight, but the blast of carbonic and seltzery bubbles lifts and scrubs to keep it drinkable. Mild hop tannin.
O: This is a well-fermented beer. It drinks very easily, as it lands more dry than the average Marzen, but that long fermentation also introduces a surprising amount of depth and complexity. Particularly in the malt character. Nice to see Tree House continue to experiment with extended lagering.

Poured from a can into a tree house tulip glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a medium sized head of off-white foam. The head fades slowly over time, leaving a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather heavy of a caramel and bready smell mixed with notes of grain and some toffee. With these comes a doughy and biscuit smell along with a bit of floral and earthy hops as well. Other notes of apple and pear and some light wood are in there as well, rounding out to the aroma rather nicely
Taste – The taste begins with a caramel and bready malt flavor mixed with a moderate showing of dough and some notes of floral and earthy hop. As the taste advances the sweetness seems to decrease along with of some of the grain, all while some other flavors of apple and pear join in. Toward the end, notes of wood and a bit of toast join in, leaving one with a moderately sweet, but overall, rather balanced Marzen flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium to slightly chewier with a more moderate carbonation level.
Overall – A rather decent Marzen overall, with a rather easy drinking nature.

16 oz can.
Pours a clear deep (rich) mahogany with a large sudsy tan head. Average head retention. Leaves some sticky lacing.
Aromas of honey wheat bread, caramel, toffee, and floral hops.
Taste follows the nose with a hint of lingering spiciness.
Body is medium with good carbonation. Creamy and dry.
Overall, this is a good Märzen beer that hits all the expected notes of the style. Would love to try on draft.

Side pour in Tewksbury.
Presents clear copper with an inch-plus of off-white head. Plenty of ringed lacing and persistent retention.
Bready malt in the nose with faint caramel. Mediumm bodied with a soft mouthfeel. Plump malt on the palate but not sweet with a blanacing bitterness and zero hops. Finishes with lingering a bready maltiness.

This was available for one day at Tree House Saratoga on a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon. Pours a beautiful copper with a two finger froth head that mellowed after the shock of air from the pour. Aroma is a blend of caramel, sweet biscuit, yummy bread. Taste follows with hint of bitter up front that is super nice and really adds to this delic bier. This amazing weekend continues with this excellent sticky sweet, roasty Marzenbier! Prost!
