16oz can poured into a snifter.
A: Dull golden color with whiter shades to it. Just barely completely opaque. Bone-white bubbly head forms at a finger and a half in height and sticks around for a bit before falling.
S: Starfruit and a spritz of pineapple, honeydew melon, papaya, pithy orange, white grapefruit. Malt base is crackery, with fleeting sweeter whiffs of dough and confectioners sugar.
T: Grassy and green up front, fresh shoots. Lots of pithy white grapefruit, flashes of pine and hemp seed. Bitterness is fairly assertive. Flashes of more playful tropical fruit; clementine, honeydew melon, kiwi, pineapple spritz. Malt base is largely dry and crackery, but again with a ghostly suggestion of dough and pound cake. Bone dry finish with a lot of lingering oily and piney bitterness.
M: Very light-bodied, soft and creamy although it still feels rather watery. Aggressive blast of scrubbing seltzery carbonation. Raspy hop tannins.
O: It's exceedingly rare that I find an IPA in small beer format that I actually enjoy, and unfortunately this falls within trend. The hop flavor is all there, but there's just not enough malt and body to support it. You end up with an unbalanced drink that is too dry and overly tannic to be truly drinkable, and it feels literally watered down. It's a valiant effort by Tree House and they did about as well as most, but there's a reason the Session IPA style didn't have staying power. I don't expect current low ABV and "better for you" trends will resurrect it or support anything like it.

16oz can with illegible date code.
Pours hazy yellow with a minimal head or retention. Pineapple pith with dankness in the nose. Light bodied with a watery mouthfeel.
Dried pineapple, white grape, faint bubblegum on the palate. Finishes dry and a bit dank with minimal bitterness.
