One of our favorite Porters is brewed with chocolate and caramel malts, which lend decadent aromas of cocoa powder, fudge, and milk chocolate. We then rested it exclusively in Rye Whiskey barrels, which imparted robust notes of oaky spice, vanilla, and a hint of clove.
Barreling non-imperial dark beers such as this is relatively uncommon, a process that involves careful barrel selection and close attention during its rest, a practice that speaks to Catharsis’ complexity and rich flavor profile.

12oz can into a teku.
Pours pitch black with a frothy mocha head. Excellent head retention. Thin lace. Nose is creamy vanilla, lactose, roasted coffee beans, and milk chocolate. Simple but really enticing . Beer opens smooth. Rich. Notes of Andes mint, cold brew coffee, mocha, and roasted malt. Light, milk chocolate sweetness mixed with a touch of burnt malt tartness. Touch of liquorice mixed with molasses at the finish. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Soft and smooth on the palate goes down dry with a lingering finish. Excellent, velvety feel.
Really good and a step up from an already great beer.
