The beer pours a decent bit of foamy dark tan head that dissipates moderately. The beer itself is a very dark and opaque brown with notes of black. The smell has a strong note of rum that overrides everything else but comes off of similar to cleaning supplies but not as acidic. Rather, the note is fairly sweet but smells like it could have spent some more time in the barrels. However, to be far, I may be smelling something that is not normally used in beer. I'm describing the beer in the best way I can. The taste is better than the smell. The rum notes are stronger with hints of oak and a bit of vanilla. The notes also betray hints of roasted malts and a tiny bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth and heavy-bodied with biting carbonation. Overall, a decent beer and one that can definitely be improved. I'm bashing this but rather that I see a lot of potential in this brew.
