one of the more interesting dessert stouts i have encountered in awhile, brewed in collaboration with interboro, it features maple syrup, blueberries, and buckwheat, straight up pancakes! i think the combination of flavors is awesome, and the unlikely hero of the whole thing is the buckwheat, which adds an earthy, almost mealy or gritty vibe to this, a density like thick wet pancakes should have, i like its contribution a lot, and it is easy to appreciate here. the maple and blueberry are over the top, doing a bit of a back and forth act through most of this with the intense maple finally winning out, extremely sweet, almost too much so, and without as much flavor is direct sugar. the blueberry seems to bold to be all the way natural, which cheapens this a little for me even though i have no idea how they make it. its thick and slick from the tap, sticky and diabetic, but awfully tasty. i think they could have made this a single, not an imperial stout, with just as much success, its a lot to drink. cool beer from these guys, i love the maple blueberry combination and the buckwheat adds a lot. fun and inventive and well executed overall!
