Brewed with a healthy Pilsner base with Chocolate & Black malts & fermented to a royal 7.5% with their house lager yeast, a flagon of this brew is sure to keep the Kings & Queens warm in their drafty environs all winter long!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, with a two finger khaki head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa and a hint of nuts and grassy hops. Flavor is dark toasted biscuit malt, milk chocolate, suggestions of nuts; light grassy hops; chocolatey. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, great mouth feel. I'm been lucky in running across a bunch of dark lagers lately and this one may be the best of the bunch. I would categorize this as a schwarzbier rather than the blander European dark lager category, but fits both. The big surprise was the depth of the chocolate malts in this, which is exceptional and well integrated. There is chocolate porter character in this one as well, but with lager body, not a bad combination. Really nice creamy body. I really liked this one a lot.

Pours black with cola brown hints and a 4 finger khaki head.

Smells slightly acidic and relatively indistinct.

Initial taste was of raisins, followed by cola, then roastiness and black licorice, with a lingering dry bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel was a little thicker than what I would imagine from a lager but relatively smooth.

Wouldn't go out of my way to buy again but may try again, only if not too expensive, overall good.
