Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with almost no head. The nose is interesting. I get a lot of smoke, which was really unexpected. I was expecting rum and maple. Some coffee and roasted malts coming through as well.
The taste is nice. Comes across as a heavily smoked porter. Rum comes through here, but isn't super dominant. Super unique taste. I get some honey, light maple, and plum.
Mouthfeel is a bit light. Overall, a really nice smooth drinking porter.

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. I picked up the bottle at the brewery late in the fall of 2023. No date stamp on the bottle. The beer pours a rich cola brown color with a fizzy khaki colored head that settles at .5 cm and fades to a sturdy surface covering and stops there, sticks around entire sampling.
The aroma on this one is definitely rum heavy with a little cocoa powder and maybe the faintest hint of maple, or it could be brown sugar. Either way no hop character on the nose and the rum isnt really to boozy smelling, just rum, if that makes any sense.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture, the beer is a little lighter than I would have thought, maybe the maple sugars thinned it out? The carbonation is fine and fairly fizzy, but not prickly on my palate and the beer drinks pretty easy.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some chocolate notes, again sort of chalky cocoa powder, here the rum is more subdued and the maple comes through with sweetness on the finish that lingers flavor wise. Finish is also fairly dry which is surprising to me. No hop character on flavor profile and also not boozy or hot on the finish. This is a fine beer and Im enjoying drinking it, but its not as robust as I had hoped in flavor or depth and body.
