With all the advancements in hops, it was only a matter of time before all those citrusy, spicy, tropical flavors make their way into the Pilsner. With West Sixth at the helm, their light lager is taken on a super ride.
Pale and foggy straw, Superluna comes with a frothy loose cap that holds its structure through a spicy, citrusy and sprucy scent. A light cereal sweetness is met with fresh baking bread, honeysuckle and lightly toasted grain as the early palate resonates with mild mannered maltiness.
Alive with spicy hops, the middle palate shakes off much of its malty beginnings and quickly favors the hops. The peels of lemon, grapefruit and orange carries a citronella spice along with a pleasant grassy, peppery and herbal earthiness. Firmly bitter in finish, the beer turns to the pine and pepper for a unique spin on an old pilsner character.
Medium light in body but a bit more moderate for lager, the beer's grain flavors invite a light straw-like tannin balance to go along with the drying, peppery hops for a lemongrass finish and a bite of mint, tea and bay.
