Let’s be real: I almost wish that I don’t want to. But here I am with this syrupy offering like Denny’s is doing a pancake promotion. Now, I don’t want to do it too dirty (because your boy has been around and has experienced worse). But 1906 just doesn’t sing to me. It’s like a Christina Aguilera single on repeat and there’s no one around to turn it off.

Oh…

Brewed to commemorate the birth of Western Kentucky University, West Sixth Brewing rolls out a simple, standard, American-styled lager that's largely modeled after pilsner.

1906 pours mostly bright golden-straw and with a frothy white cap. As the foam starts to fall, the nose fills with floral hops, earth, grain and a simple bready-sweet scent. As that sweetness washes the middle palate, the grain flavors of light honeysukcle, fresh bread and wafer each come to mind.

As the lager rolls across the middle palate, the sweetness lifts and the hops link up with other grain flavors for notions of straw, hay and grassy herbs. Hints of lemon and apple play out as the flavors close out. Soft sulfur actually adds to create a crisp finish while the hops develop in to a light and spicy bitterness of lemongrass, lemon pepper, mint and cut grass.

Medium bodied for lager but actually quite light overall, the lager finishes bready, grainy and herbal with a medium-short extension of bitter greens. Its a no-frills, simple and drinkable lager that's great for cheering on your favorite western Kentucky college team.
