After a long mountain bike ride (fortunately without a broken spoke), I was excited to see that Backcountry had a saison on tap--just the thing to quench my thirst, right?
A: Clear and gold with lots of carbonation and a small head.
S: A mix of spicy and salty. Nice pepper overtones.
T: This is very fruity at first--lots of orange--with a slightly vinegary finish though overall this leans away from being dry and opts for sweetness.
M: The balance is off--again, it leans too far to the sweet end of the spectrum. Fortunately, it has good length and a nice medium body.
D: Overall the lack of balance (read: dry and crisp finish) makes this less refreshing and drinkable than it ought to be.
I'm a sucker for saisons, even mediocre ones, but this is one to take a pass on.
