Bottle from Brewers Haven. Finally tracked this down, been on my list for a while, this, the non-huckleberry version.Hazy golden pour with a small tight cap of head. Aroma is bread with a hint of lemon zest. Taste brings more of the bready flavors, light citrus, and an absolutely divine creamy consistency. Warming brings out more of the coriander, giving it a slightly minty quality. Pretty damn good.

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a lightly hazy yellow amber with a thin white head that dissipates to small patches with a slight ring around the glass. Aroma of bready malt, clove, a hint of lemon and coriander, Belgian yeast. Flavor is pale and candi malt, light lemon and melon, clove and coriander. Finishes with clove, light fruit esters, and a little husky malt. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A rather mildly flavored witbier with clear Belgian character due to Selkirk's nice Belgian yeast strain. This one is redeemed for me by the fruity yeast; it's a satisfactory witbier, but not a really notable one. One of the more common Selkirk abbey ales that I have missed finding in the past.

I bought a bottle of Chapel in a bottle shop. Poured in to a pilsner glass.

Pours a pale gold color, clear with a thin white head.

Smell is faint with a little sweet bread aroma.

Taste is very good, a bread flavor with a little citrus fruit along side.

Mouthfeel is clean and crisp, with a dry finish.

Overall a good wheat ale. A little dry for my liking, but not bad.

Poured in a large Piraat tulip, Chapel is dull gold with a thin white head.

Smell is bubblegum and citrus, coriander.

Taste is similar, but overshadowed by a metallic tinge, a touch grainy as well.

Mouthfeel is light, thin.

Drinkability is modest, this is not the most inspired wit bier, but it is light.

 

Excellent Witbier IMO. Pours a straw yellow with a bit of a white hue. Nice whit foam, finger width that laces the glass. The nose is of spice, coriander and clove with a bit of pepper. Taste of spicy, a bit of pepper and coriander with light citrus and wheat malt. A little bit light on feel. Overall a decent beer that is available at my grocery store down the street.

 

 

 

 

I ‘m pouring this from the bomber into a 10 ounce “Olympia” pilsener glass that I found at a second hand store (a pair of glasses, actually, for like a buck a piece). A moderate pour produces a frothy, bubbly white head of about ¾ inch. The beer is highly carbonated and a hazy pale golden color.

The aroma is very reminiscent of some pilseners I’ve tried, with a fruity aroma suggestive of tomato skins or grape skins but also a slight bit of barnyard funk. The flavor is unique- grainy, fruity- tomato again, but also a good bit of lemon and just a touch of musk melon. A light malt flavor beneath is suggestive of crackers. I don’t detect a lot of banana or much spiciness. An earthy, nutty, funky bitterness lingers on the finish. The mouth feel is typical of a wheat beer done right- frothy, creamy and a bit sticky on the tongue. I get hints now and then of a sweet, almost Seven-Up like flavor which is perhaps the fruit interacting with the froth. Smooth and easy to drink.

This isn’t as spicy and funky as some wheat beers I’ve tried but an interesting variation on the style nonetheless and well worth a sampling.

 

 

22oz into a tulip. Pours a clear pale golden color w/ a soft white head, good carbonation.

Aroma is bright and spicy. Fruity Belgian yeast, clove, floral hops, soft wheat malt, ripe banana.

Taste follows nose. Bready wheat malt, lemon, clove, coriander, and Old World hops. Finishes clean and semi-dry.

Mouthfeel is crisp, light, and refreshing. Carbonation is spot-on. Perfect for a warm summer day.

Overall a very nice offering. I'm not generally wild about witbiers but this one hits all the right notes.

 

 

22oz bottle, not served in a 'footed Pilsner' glass.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mostly fizzy dirty white head, which leaves a few elongated swaths of whipped topping lace around the glass as it slowly recedes. There seems also to be some continual rising effervescence.

It smells of semi-sweet wheat malt, prominent dark, almost berry-like fruit, subdued savoury spice, like coriander walked through the mash in rubber boots, a further doughy breadiness, and a faint earthy dryness. The taste is once more well turned-out wheaty malt, a now fairly tart purple grape juice fruitiness, muddled spices (pepper and coriander, likely), stale lemon juice, and a soft, almost lilting yeastiness.

The carbonation is fairly innocuous, just a soft frothiness for the most part, the body medium-light in weight, generally smooth, and even a little creamy, in an airy sort of way. It finishes off-dry, the fruitiness and the malty wheat persisting as ever was, tart and sweet to the end.

A decent, and adequate dumbed-down witbier, the unspecified fruit additives (given the region, I'm gonna take a wild stab and say huckleberries) overpowering any subtly that may have existed from the inherent yeast esters. Anyways, easy enough and enjoyable to drink on a day where summer just might have decided to show its tardy face around here.

Not sure if this has gone through some innovation or not, but this is now a huckleberry Witbier.

Smell is amazing, sweet and tart huckleberries dominate.

Taste is similar, with nice huckleberries flavor. Some Belgian funk comes in after the huckleberries and provides the finish.

Overall, a very tasty beer. The Belgian funk elevates the typical huckleberry beer into something a little more complex and enjoyable.

I had this on-tap at the brewery during their 1 year anniversary party. Beer was served in a clear plastic cup; they weren't using normal glassware during the party. According to the brewer, the Chapel is a version of their White which is brewed with a Belgian yeast.

Appearance: medium yellow hue with a thick cap of white foam. Not much visible effervescence, though.

Smell: wheaty with a hint of spice, though with a little bit of tartness that doesn't quite appeal to me.

Taste: tart and wheaty with plenty of lemon and orange character. Some coriander comes through. Pretty good, although a little tart for me for the style.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a satisfying creaminess. Great!

Overall: a pretty solid and drinkable witbier; it's quite refreshing.
