Our single hop series has been a delicious and interesting experiment into the diverse world of hops. Following an identical recipe but only changing one variable each time (the hop) we've been able to study the exact aromatics and flavours imparted by specific varieties. Not unlike the series launched by Mikkeller, here at Bellwoods our Monagamy brews are all about settling down with one love. Yes, when ordering this beer in the brewpub the jokes are endless (ie. “I'm not so sure about monogamy” or “I tried monogamy once and never really liked it” or the oft hilarious “I guess I'll have it because my girlfriend/boyfriend is sitting beside me”) but stop being a wise-ass. Even the polygamous can't deny the allure of this beer.
AMARILLO: This hop variety is characterized by bright, citrusy aromatics and a well-balanced bitterness.

Bottle: Poured a hazy/cloudy pale yellow color ale with a medium white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of dry floral hops notes with light citrusy notes is quite refreshing. Taste is a good mix of dry floral hops notes with some citrusy undertones and some smooth pale malt with light residual sugar notes. Body si full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Enjoyable but somewhat dryer then expected with nice oat malt base.

Pours hazy peach color with a compact but long lasting head. Tons of lace clings to the glass. Juicy tangerine and lemon notes fill the nose. The taste follows suit with a huge orangey, citrusy Amarillo hop flavor dominating from the get go. A light crackery malt presence barely provides balance. Some herbal and mint notes develop with warmth. The body is medium and mouthfeel is creamy. Tangerine sweetness and high bitterness in the long finish. Hops coat the mouth for some time.
An excellent IPA that showcases one of my favorite hops. Super dank and citrusy. A must try, even for non-hopheads.

The monogamy series is definitely improving in recent releases as they have apparently been using a new yeast strain. This one was fresh and juicy with orange and grapefruit aroma/flavour dominating with a light piney presence as well.

Fresh bottle. No date, but probably bottled in the last few days.
The beer is a clear, hazy golden. Small white head.
Nose contains some dank pine along with some citrus scents.
Taste is close to the nose. Pine and slight weedy flavours, along with bright citrus; grapefruit and other fruits. Light malt body, adding a touch of sweetness. Moderately bitter.
Medium bodied, moderately carbonated. A bit oily.
Overall. nice stuff. Another good entry in the series. Not one of the very best, but certainly one of the stronger ones.

Lightly hazed pale golden colour, one finger of white head. Smell is a nice mix of crisp citrus with a subtle pine/dank/earthy quality, a little bit of malt but less so than previous editions of monogamy. Taste dry and hoppy, big grapefruit and tangerine, generous bitterness throughout, dry hop takes center stage here, again malt is fairly restrained here. Light carb, fairly oily and dry, medium body. Solid stuff and probably the most bitter monogamy so far, another great monogamy variant.
