Collaboration with Four Winds Brewing
This is our first collaboration with our friends from Four Winds Brewery (Delta, BC). The fruit pale ale was salted, fermented on a hefty portion of pink guava, and heavily dry hopped with Citra and Ekuanot. The resulting beer has an outstanding fruit aroma of guava with a finishing hoppy bite, and light but lasting salt profile.

500ml bottle advertised as a salted guava pale ale in collaboration with Four Winds Brewing Co.
L: Pours an opaque light gold, any head dissipates almost immediately. Looks like a pale grapefruit juice in the glass.
S: Lots of citrus, primarily grapefruit and lemon along with a briny, sea salt presence.
T: Follows the nose along with hops and a tropical guava flavour. Finish is dry and very salty, I thought it was too salty at first but as my palate adjusted the saltiness balances the sour citrus flavours very well. Delicious stuff.
F - Medium body with high carbonation, like I'm drinking a grapefruit spritzer.
O - One of the best beers I've had from Bellwoods. Full of hop and citrus flavours with a big, dry salty finish. Limited release so grab it while you can!

Pours cloudy and golden orange with a short lived head and no lacing. The nose is strongly citrus pith and grapefruit. On the palate comes first with dry citrus fruit, grapefruit and lots of hop bitterness and finishes long, dry and briny. An interesting beer, but not one I would circle back round for.

From a 500ml bottle served at 12 degrees Celsius into a snifter. The bottle was picked up fresh from the brewery.
Look: The beer pours an opaque yellow with not even a nominal head. No lacing. Same as pouring juice out of a box. Lame.
Smell: Moderate strength and sharp. Hop-forward and fruity with notes of guava, orange, grapefruit, and melon. No apparent yeast or malts.
Taste: Follows the aroma seamlessly. Sour with notes of orange, guava, and strong salt. I sort of like the intense presence of the salt but maybe it's a bit too much? I can feel it in the back of my throat during the finish which is long, strong, and bitter.
Feel: Medium body with high carbonation. Prickly, sharp, and refreshing. Quite dry.
Overall: Another beer by Bellwoods with their signature hoppy-juicy-citrus-smash that is quickly growing old for me. Great marketing as usual but the taste is too much like the rest of their brews. Having said that, there's no question the beer delivers on its promise of guava and salt which add an interesting layer(s). After having had multiple different beers from the brewery in the past few months, It looks like I'm in need of a break from them :(

A salted pale ale with pink guava purée. Both the salt and the guava are understated, the base pale ale is prominent, with citrus fruits and a bit of basil. Moderately bitter. The guava blends in nicely.
