A huge imperial IPA with a simple pale malt bill and a hefty addition of flaked oats, Goblin Sauce is the first imperial IPA we've brewed using Lupulin Powder, a proprietary hop product jam packed with all the good stuff...and we hit it twice for even more punchy aroma. Every step of the brewing process of this beer was done exclusively by goblins.

Goblin Sauce
Bell Wood Brewing
Double IPA
Date: 03 24 2022
The beer is on the threshold for being out of date. At 46 degrees, I served the beer in a tulip glass. A hard pour created a frothy and creamy bright white two-fingered head. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 6 are a pale golden yellow with straw-like hues. The clarity is hazy. The appearance of the beer tells me maybe this is NEIPA. I wanted to see a longer-lasting head, but it looks average.
I smell oranges, papaya, pineapple, melons, peaches, a hint of floral, and lemon zest. Nosing the beer again, I detect crackers, bready, and grassy. I do not smell any cardboard or musty basement.
The flavors are strawberries, melon, pineapple, peaches, passion fruit, tangerines, and orange zest with a hint of grapefruit. I also taste crackers, cereal grains, toasted bread, a hint of grass, and a touch of floral esters.
The mouthfeel is somewhat astringent and creamy, with a lingering pleasant finish. The body is a medium plus, with medium carbonation.
The beer is a fruity IPA with a lot of hop combinations. The malt backbone is firm, holding this beast up. Tasty IPA, I am glad to try something different. Thank you, Peter, for this beer.

473ml can delivered from the brewery. No canning date. Listed at 8.5% ABV.
Appearance - Very hazy pale golden color. Sort of looks like a melted peach creamsicle. A thin half finger of white head rests on top and a small collar clings to the glass.
Smell - Kind of subdued, tropical notes, mango and peach prominent, with a little citrus backing things up.
Taste - Citrus, soft intially then embolded. Lots of mango, some peach, a little sprinkling of grapefruit pith in there at the end. Green weediness in there at the end. Very very good.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, juicy and with just enough carbonation. Pretty crushable for a double IPA.
Overall - Pretty top notch stuff from these guys, up there with Double Jutsu as my favorite Bellwoods Brew, thus far.

Pkg: 2020-11-11. Very fresh. Cloudy like a hazy ipa. Very sweet and tart aromas. Citrus, mangos and peach some through. Very fruity and heavy bodied with great hops. Great texture and mouthfeel and no hint of alcohol.

Was looking forward to this one but I was somewhat disappointed. The nose was already off and the head was unimpressive but it's the taste that really counts, right? So what did I think? It's decent but has that combination sweaty lady privates/lard taste that appears in some IPAs. It's a turn off.
Good but not that good.

A very nice Bellwoods brew. Maybe my new favourite from there? Pours a nice uniform hazy amber with small head fading down to nothing quickly as many Bellwoods IPAs do. Full juicy hop aroma & taste with a nice full smooth mouthfeel. Taste included some nice tropical & mango with some dank grass mixed in nicely. Going to have to enjoy this again.

Pours cloudy yellow with a bubbly dish soap head. Just a bit of lace clings to the glass. Mango, lemon, pineapple, strawberry in the nose. The taste is aggressively hoppy with tropical fruit and citrus mixing with herbal notes. The mouthfeel is light on carbonation but numbing with the bitterness. High bitterness and a bit of boozy heat in the inifinitely long finish.
A hop bomb for sure, hoppy even by Bellwoods standards. Highly recommended if you like them dank and bitter.

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2018, Red Session. Aroma has sweet dextrin malt notes, dank and juicy hops and milky yeast. Taste is well balanced, quite milky yet light bodied and easy drinking.
