Black Roses is an experimental imperial stout from our brewpub, brewed with rose water and dates, then conditioned on toasted almonds and pistachios. A strange but harmonious melange that balances both delicate and bold flavours.

I don't know how to describe this one. It's a very odd beer in my opinion. The rosewater is present on the nose and definitely in the taste, but there are also some odd flavors, I assume there are some other added spices. I can't say I really care this one, but it does stick with me. An original.

you have to be impressed with this, i mean, its weird and intense sure, but bellwoods is killing it with the adjuncts right now, seems there is nothing they wont try, and it all seems to be working so well. this is a huge imperial stout, i mean thick and chewy and roasted to bitterness and dense as they get, but its then spiked with dates and rose, and aged with pistachios and almonds, a crazy combination of things that fill this stout out at various times with unique moments of flavor throughout it. the crazy thing for me is the rose, which shockingly drive this. i cant believe a delicate flavor like roses, in this case rosewater i think, can come through a stout this heavy this clearly, both in aroma and flavor the roses are way out in front, perfumey as heck but really natural too, like the whole rose, stems and petals, fleshy and obviously floral, fresh cut to me, gorgeous even though its intense. the nuts add more to the texture i think than the flavor, maybe an earthy sweet layer in here from them, but more richness and heft to the body. fantastic complexity here though, lots of sweetness, brown sugary from the dates, and just very complete and unique, i have never tasted anything like this, and while the proportions of things are odd, it surely works. i spent a ton of money in here because i couldnt let these beers go without trying them, i would have hated to miss this! heavy and light at the same time, just brilliant!

An imperial stout with rose water, dates, almonds and pistachios. Lots going on, but the rose water sticks out and doesn't quite work for me. FIgs bend in better, but still seem a bit odd. A bit too much going on for me.
