Some years the hop they use I like, other years I like better than this year. Neutral colour, a little sugary overall, with actual residue of sugar on the bottle.

It pours a murky apricot orange. The finger's worth of white head on top is sticky and sturdy, leaving behind an attractively thick ring of lace.
Fresh greens are all around. Piles of sweet tangerine and over-ripe cantaloupe are inundated by snappy, bright resin. Its malt bill is puffy, biscuity, and quite light on its feet. The nose has some serious punch for 5%.
This year's Comet comes with the freshness of mint and the flavor of bright green grass. Its punchy fruit quality is smoothed over here, with Navel orange and more of the same tangerine. Thin and clean is the bitterness, playing a tune of balance instead of definition. Similar to the nose, its malt derived soft biscuit quality is fast moving and short lived.
The only real downfall of this beer is here in the mouthfeel. It lacks structure, is slightly watery, and is under-carbonated. On the plus side, it does have balance and has serious potential to be drank in quantity.
A canon was fired from a canoe. The ultra-fresh, bright, resinous, tangerine bomb in Comet had a great expression in the nose but was too much for the 5% puddle of a body to handle. Plus up the malt bill and this would be a good celebration of this year's hop harvest.

The 2018 Comet-hopped edition of this wet-hopped ale. 500ml bottle bought at the bottle shop earlier today.
Pours a hazy light orange colour. Half-inch head dissipates quickly.
Big grapefruit and stone fruit (apricot and peach) hop aroma.
Flavour is more grapefruit and stone fruit. It also tastes slightly "green", like a mix of fresh-cut grass and unripe stone fruit. Dry with very low bitterness. Typical Bellwoods.
Light, perhaps slightly too watery mouthfeel. Not a lot of carbonation.
This is yet another excellent hoppy beer from Bellwoods. They really know what they're doing. The Comet hops are bright and flavourful and live up to the "Citra's little sister" billing. That said, I'd hoped for a little bit more of an in-your-face hop punch from a one-off wet-hopped autumn ale like this one. It could just be that I feel more like drinking an IPA this time of year.
