This past September in the pre-Witchstock chaos, we wrangled the guys from Cloudwater to brew a session stout with us. Our aim was simple, to make a smooth stout with a moderate ABV that was decidedly more toffee-like than roasty. The result is a fantastically balanced beer with foundations of caramelized malts and chocolate, that we split into two variants: OG, and with coffee.
What it smells like, what it tastes like: We circulated the base stout through 60 pounds of Ace espresso from Propeller Coffee Co. The coffee boosts the body and adds a touch of extra bitterness while providing an epic level of coffee character.

Bottle: Poured a mostly black color stout with a large dark foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some light roasted malt notes is pretty enjoyable. Taste is a nice mxi of floral coffee notes with some roasted malt with some light residual sugar with light dry bitter finish. Body is light which is to be expected considering the style with good carbonation. Nice enjoyable session stout.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a big fluffy white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like heavily roasted coffee, lactose, leafy hops, and bitter roasted malt.
This is decent, but the flavor is a bit thin, and the coffee is a bit over-roasted/bitter. It's very drinkable, though, and does a good approximation of a session coffee stout. I'd prefer the finish to be a bit more rounded, velvety, and creamy, rather than bitter. It seems like possibly the bitterness is coming from both the hops and the coffee here.
This is fluffy and creamy up front, and then drops off thin on the back end of the beer. It's still fairly drinkable.
This one isn't as good as the base "Stout We Made." I enjoyed it, but the coffee flavor is a touch off.

Deep brown - hey, like coffee - capped by a bubbly, cappuccino coloured head that has a few minutes retention.
Aroma of medium roast coffee predominantly, and very lightly dark chocolate in the background.
Flavours of coffee, and something I had trouble identifying - coke. It has some of the feel of a slightly flat coke too. Has that tangy, slight bitterness, lingering through the finish. Body and carbonation is on the watery side.
It definitely hits the coffee notes, although not aggressively, but could use some more backbone and effervescence.

Propeller coffee not so expresso. Very ground and roasted. Decent drinkability but not best of style.
