After thoroughly enjoying the process of slowing down to brew lagers over the course of 2018, we decided to head into the new year with an unofficial lager series utilizing yeast strains from Ontario-based Escarpment Labs.
This series helps us to learn the nuances of a wide range of lager yeast strains, and hone our lager making process in general -- it also necessitates the drinking of many crispy lagers, which is a challenge we’ll accept with open arms.
Biergarten Pilsner is our newest variant in the series, showcasing subtle floral notes, crisp body, and medium bitterness.

This one pours a slightly hazed but mostly clear light yellow, with a fluffy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like crackery malt, herbal hops, spicy hops, and a light mineral character.
This is so clean, without any flaws whatsoever. It's got a crisp and biting spicy and herbal hop character, with just the slightest tight malt character. This is basically flawlessly constructed.
This is really crisp, and the full bottle went down in about 5 minutes. It's one of the most drinkable beers I've ever encountered - it's absurd.
Bellwoods does a sneaky good job with their lager program.
