Got this one from peensteen this past summer. Thanks, man!
From a 500ml bottle into a snifter
Imperial stout with ginger and coconut
APPEARANCE: Black pour yields a 2+ finger, thinner, foamier, pot holed dark mocha head with lousy retention. Fizzy and noisy. Little coconut shavings in there too. Black body with medium carbonation evident. Head recedes to a thin wisp and clings to the glass. A slight wisp remains leaving touches of lacing on the glass as it empties. Oily, fizzy head, but great color all around.
SMELL: Quite roasted with plenty of tobacco and black malts. Some coconut and vanilla sweetness with dark chocolate and some spicy ginger on the nose. Roasted and burnt.
TASTE: More ginger in the flavor up front, with vanilla and coconut flavors, roasted malts, tobacco and milk chocolate as well. Some more spicy ginger and roasted flavors at the swallow with a bit of alcohol as well, leading into a bold finish of ginger, coconut and vanilla, roasted and burnt malts, some tobacco and bitter dark chocolate lingers on the palate. Some light booze as well. Roasted, chocolaty with some decent ginger in there. Flavorful.
PALATE: Fuller body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down fine, enough weight, and finishes very sticky on the palate. No real heat lingers.
OVERALL: Good stuff. Much like the raspberry vol.4, this is a ginger beer, but the base stout is big and roasted enough to make it a formidable partner in crime. This is flavorful and enjoyable, with lots of stuff going on. The base stout is flavorful and beastly, meaning the big dose of ginger doesn’t run away with the show. Very nice and worth checking out if you’re a fan of this type of stuff. I very much enjoyed it.
