Grandma's Boy was one of the very first beers we aged in oak at Bellwoods, and its (almost) yearly release is one that garners much excitement. This year we decided to switch things up and share the unfruited version, in all its sour/funky/crisp glory -- and named it, simply, Grandma.
The absence of fruit allows for more subtle flavours to shine through, showcasing the perfect intersection of acid, brett, oak, and a crisp, spritzy body.
Gentle acidity balanced by refined brett character accented by notes of green tea, bosc pear, and champagne

2025 Version, 7.8% ABV.
Poured a thin head of foam. Medium golden color that has that classic wild ale lactic acid smell.
More with the classic wild ale sour acidic tastes. A hint of sweetness can be found if you try to find it.
Overall it's exactly what I was expecting it to be, although it claims to be a higher ABV at 7.8% for the 2025 version.
Can't say I taste the difference but I guess it's more bang for your buck.
Will continue to get more wild ale's from Bellwood's when I can.

Bottle: Poured a yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light funky ester is quite enticing. Taste is a good mix of sour notes, subtle oak notes with some funky ester and minimal acidity. Body is full with good carbonation. Very drinkable sour with right amount of complexity.
