Unfiltered, murky, the colour of white pinapple juice or white grapefruit. Forms a nice finger of white head on the pour, but retention isn't strong, only a minute or so.
Fresh pineapple dominates, juicy. Single-minded in a great way. Feel like I'm in the tropics.
The flavour is quite different, more like a pineapple hard candy with its sugary sweetness. The fruitiness is not as pronounced as in the aroma. Notes of citrus peel, like yuzu. There's something else distinct that I can't put my finger on. Leather? Peach skin? Can't figure it out. Medium body and carbonation. Feel is softly crisp, almost unctuous.
The aroma & look set this up as a beer with a simple profile, but the taste took me for a spin. Unique & intriguing, it's something different.
Looking up Barbe Rouge after this review, kumquat is one of the characteristics, and I think that might be the missing piece. Haven't had that since my days working in produce.
