Body is a hazy, muted gold; building a loose, white head with low retention.
Sour and funky aroma, with citrus notes, but not fruity. A touch floral. Simple but enticing.
Taste has an approachable sourness, drop of cider vinegar, whisps of must. Grapefruit is distinct and incorporated with a deft touch, really coming to light in the finish, lingering with zesty bitterness. It contributes without stealing the show. Medium body, medium/light carbonation that's fine like Perrier. Light sweetness, not juicy, and a dry finish, the palate lightly puckered.
Well crafted, Bellwoods has a done a great job here of balancing flavours and giving grapefruit a platform without letting it run away the whole show. It's my first time trying a Barn Owl, and it won't be the last.
