500 ml bottle from the brewery. Review from notes. Served fairly cold into a tulip
Appearance - Super dark brown with fairly dark brown that pours a half finger. Moderate lacing and pretty decent head retention. With the colour it is, the brew is looking ominous.
Smell - Lots of spices, nutmeg, cinnamon ginger and allspice. Hints of rum, with subtle pineapple undertone. Not as robust as the base brew nose-wise. Coconut is quite muted.
Taste - Lots of sweetness initially, with some booziness. Some pineapple and treacle, brown sugar, cinnamon and all spice and a trace of ginger. Pineapple infused fruit cake with some chocolate and toasty backing. Lots going on and that is a good thing.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, not a lot of carbonation but with those flavors singing, there's a lot of sensation anyways.
Overall - Excellent brew, steep price and the fact I enjoyed the base beer even more, makes this unlikely to be a repeat purchase, but the accents of coconut and especially pineapple, made this Skeleton Key a unique experience.
