About three moons ago we asked Bebo from Third Moon Brewing if he'd like to make another silly Imperial Stout with us in time for the least-silly-most-scary day of the year: Halloween. How about something cereal-inspired?, Bebo asked. Sounds great, we exclaimed.
Our cereal inspired stout with cocoa and peanuts is sweet, roasty and is a no-holds-barred chewy stout.

A collaboration with Third Moon Brewing, whom I also enjoy on occasion.
The pour is gorgeous black with a caramel head. Perfect. The nose is somewhat of a miss, with metal coming through the most. Not quite as silky feel as most lactose added beer, but still smooth. Regrettably, that metal scent translated into the taste as well (or perhaps the other way around). Not nearly as badly as the Rorschach Brewery debacles, but it still shows the lack of first rate quality.
Sticky on the lips, so it is sweet, but frankly neither chocolate or peanuts can be easily detected within.
Drinkable, but a miss for sure.

473 ml can from the brewery. Served cold into a chalice.
Appearance - Very dark brown near black, with two fingers of light tan head. Pretty good head retention and a nice little curtain of lacing left behind.
Smell - After long consideration, it's a peanut butter rice krispy ball covered in chocolate. However, the nuts lead more peanut laden aromatically and a lot less of the rich buttery-ness. The chocolate is somewhere between milk and dark and isn't terribly aromatic. The overall nose is still quite good, but could have been much more.
Taste - Peanut butter rice krispy ball covered in dark chocolate. The nuts are definitely there but subdued and don't have the buttery quality that would take this brew to the next level. The chocolate is fairly mild too. Some roasty elements underneath. Maybe a bit less sweet and rich than what I was expecting, although still quite tasty.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, moderate carbonation and fairly slick feel.
Overall - The potential and the combo is there for an absolutely unbelievable beer, but would've preferred a slightly sweeter beer as that would have melded really well with the peanuts and chocolate. Nonetheless, very well made.
