Created to showcase the prowess of a single hop per batch, our Monogamy IPA series has been an integral part of Bellwoods for almost a decade. More recently we decided to shine a light on the tropically-inspired New Zealand hop varieties, which is also when we learned that Kiwi birds mate with one partner for life! The rest, as the old story goes, is ˜HiStOrY˜.
The inaugural batch of this bright hoppy beer is made with Waimea hops, prized for their balance of woody, citrusy notes.

I'm not the world's largest fan of hazy beers, but this one had a terrific hop flavor. I think the hop is from New Zealand, but I found it to be tropical and juicy. I enjoyed it some hours after watching John Olerud be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, which I also toured. Good day, eh?

Body is thick, milky, opaque like blended pineapple juice, forming a solid, off-white head with retention of several minutes.
Mild aromas of whole grain cereal, orange zest, faint pine.
Feel stands out, soft and pillow-y like a marshmallow, and it has some of that sugary sweetness as well (a bit too much); in fact, there's more a sense of confectioner's sugar than fruitiness, though there is a hint of orange and grapefruit, along with some light pine; semi-dry finish, the bittering hops more than balanced by residual sugars and caramel malt and...something else, which, looking at the can turns out to be oats, and that explains some of the sweetness and the feel; very fine, effervescent carbonation contributes to a full feel.

Review from notes. Purchased from Brewery with a June 8, 2023 canning date. Served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Hazy golden yellow color with that milky whitish sheen to it too. A couple fingers of head rest on top and settle nicely.
Smell - Plenty of tropical notes, some tangerine and grapefruit with a smidgen of kiwi.
Taste - Tangerine, grapefruit with some muddled citrus and again kiwi.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good expressive carbonation.
Overall - One of those beers that the net result is great than the sum of its parts. Very solid IPA and one I hope I can buy more of.
