Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of bitter black chocolate notes with strong woody notes and some bitter notes. Taste is also a mix of black chocolate notes with some strong woody notes with some molasses notes. Body is full with an oily texture with good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Interesting but barrel notes are quite aggressive.

500 ml bottle from the brewery served in a snifter. Bottled November 17, 2022. Aged in first use American oak barrels for 17 months. Served well chilled.
Appearance - An aggressive pour leads a syrupy beer out of the bottle and into the glass pouring midnight black and leaving a three quarter finger dense dark tan head. Imposing with above average head retention for a big beer.
Smell - Lots of wood, some dark chocolate and a bunch of molasses too. Nose isn't huge but has great complexity.
Taste - Caramel, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla bourbon. It's all there in different amounts. Less wood and no smoke for a beer called Fireplace Channel, but delightful complex and sweeter than you might expect. Just a touch more wood and ash in the aftertaste, to bring everything full circle.
Mouthfeel - Super full body, syrupy and sweet but not cloying. A definite sipper, but with great depth. Carbonation is quite low.
Overall - Top notch Imperial stout that has very good complexity and hits multiple dimensions easier than some of Bellwoods other imperial stouts. Only thing that could ramp this up significantly more would be to add just a bit more smoke, although it does start to show after repeated sips. Not cheap but a great purchase and a fine shareable beer or a near "whale" to open towards the end of a tasting with friends and connoisseurs alike.
