500ml bottle from the brewery for a cool $25 CDN. Bottled December 12, 2023. Served cold into a Trappist glass.
Appearance - Thick and viscous, like seriously viscous. A finger and a half of very slow forming but incredibly thick dark tan head form. Beer is black as night by the way. Dense enough to be it's own food group. Pretty good retention too.
Smell - Chocolate al the way, with some nuttiness, chocolate with nuts. Some honey, a distinct, chocolatey funk and some almonds. Plenty of booze too and some vanilla for good measure.
Taste - Booze, chocolate, fruitcake, nuttiness returns afterwards. More bourbon soaked fruitcake. Booze is quite light in the aftertaste with fruit and candied fruit doing the heavy lifting.
Mouthfeel - Super, thick and fudgey, body is HEAVY and THICC, but the aftertaste is surprisingly light. Creamy and full. Booze is well integrated and a thick but creamy dessert texture is the aftermath.
Overall - Everything nailed here to be a delicious dessert imperial stout, the question is how thick do you like your beer and what's your opinion on bourbon soaked fruitcakes? If the answer is yes to both then this beer was designed for you.
