Bottle drank side by side with the regular version.
A - Medium translucent amber colour with a small film of off-white head.
S - Same general aromas as the regular version (bread, caramel, Belgian yeast, cloves) but more muted with some oak present.
T - Bread and caramel up front with a good oak presence. Belgian yeast and clove flavours are present as well but more muted than they are in the regular version.
M - Medium body with a nice chew. Light carbonation.

Bottle poured into a wine glass.
A: Minimal but sparkling head – fantastic retention on the glass. The body is a russet honey.
S: Slight malt and esters; minimal barrel character, not particularly vinous.
T: Spicy rye, bready and sweet malt, peaches and plums, followed by a long but mild astringency.
M: Good carbonation and medium bodied, works with the style.

Recent bottle from the brewery's store. Expected a lot, but the aging worked in reverse here. Muted biere de garde flavour, not getting any significant wine taste either. Aggressively carbonated.Still drinkable.Hmm! What about apple brandy aging next?

On tap at the brewery, served in a tulip. Aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrel from the Creekside Estate Winery.
Looks about the same as the non-barreled version, perhaps a shade darker red. White head, and perhaps a shred more retention, and spotty lace. Nose still spicy, earthy rye, malty, vinous notes are mild but there's a bit of sweetness and fruit imparted. Taste is about the same as the regular, but perhaps a bit smoother and less sharp/alcoholic. Still sweet, caramelly, rye spice, darker stone fruits and some mild vinous character. Medium full body, but lower carbonation. Better than the non-barreled version, but still some alcohol evident. A pretty good beer nonetheless.

Purchased from the brewery over the weekend. No bottling date but it will have been very recently.
Dark amber/toffee colour with a large white head. Pretty good retention, some lacing.
Scent carries spices (ginger is noticeable), yeast, oak, bready malt.
Taste is like the smell. Spice, yeast, bready malt. Oak is there but restrained. Not as strong as in the barrel aged Lost River IPA. Some fruit flavours, apple and pear.
Full bodied, moderate carbonation, chewy.
Overall, pretty good. I can't do a side by side, but I don't find it to be terribly different from the regular Biere de Garde. Not a huge effect from the barrel.
