Ten years ago, we released our first collaboration with Luc "Bim" Lafontaine. Since then, Bim went on to open Godspeed Brewery, a much-loved establishment in the East End of Toronto.

This second collaboration of Last Splash is awash with notes of sweet fern, orange bitters and toasted biscuit. Supremely tasty with pleasant bitterness throughout within a crystal clear package.

Hops: Waikatu and Simcoe

This is an interesting treat. A one-off random, vintage 2012 double IPA.

From a bottle, it pours a hazy gold color with a full off-white head.

The nose is a bit musty and stale, light malt, but great pine and resin character. It smells very earthy, hay, wet grass. The flavor is very strong. Lots of pine, much more than I would expect out of a 2 year old DIPA. Some fruit, good hop bitterness. Overall, it was good.

This held up well and wish I could have tried it fresh.

Pours a golden copper with large foamy slightly off white head. Nose is predominately citrus, piney and rounded out by a caramel malt sweetness. Taste is represented well with hops, oily and pungent. Citrusy too, oranges, tangerines and some of that mellowed malt base. Mouthfeel medium bodied, smooth.
Overall a great one-off, solid double ipa.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty blonde color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of sweet Belgian malt notes with light fruity ester. Taste is a good mix between a solid malt backbone with some fruity ester and a quite sweet finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Good offering with nice fruity ester though a tad too sweet and maybe lacking some attenuation.

A collaboration with former DDC brewer Luc "Bim" Lafontaine with seems to be his last beer brewed before heading to Japan.

Thanks to jrenihan for this one.

Poured from a 650ml. bottle (ABV 9.3% & bottled Aug. 24, 2012) and split with my wife.

Appearance: Color of light peach fuzz, totally hazy, with a nice whipped head that melds with the glass.

Smell: Wow, fresh mango just jumps at me. Slice of sweet, juicy mango mixed with pieces of tangerine and a hint of peaches. Like a fruit salad.

Taste: Pulpy fruit. more raw than the aroma as the hops kick the flavor up a notch and subdue the mango and assorted fruit.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, drinkable yet bitterness is felt. Medium body, nice carbonation. This is almost 10%?

Overall: Very enjoyable. The aroma leads you to believe that it'll be more fruit-like but then there's a bait and switch as hops show teeth in flavor. Well balanced and tasty.

On tap at Bellwoods.

Beer is an opaque caramel orange with a moderate white head. Decent lacing.

Lovely smell. Floral, caramel, orange, some tropical fruit. Smells like perfume.

Caramel malt, orange citrus and other light fruit in the taste. Grassy. Mildly bitter. Though there is a lot of hop action here, I don't find it to be hop dominated, and it is certainly not a typical DIPA. Indeed, I think this is why the brewery has been labelling it as a "strong ale" rather than a DIPA.

Full bodied, moderate carbonation. A bil oily.

Overall, good. Judging from the other reviews I am not as into this beer as most, but I do like it.

650ml bomber sent out by liamt07 thanks dude bottled Aug 24th nice and fresh!! says 9.3%

A murky golden orange with lots of tiny particles and a few chunks of sediment, enough clarity to see a few streams of bubbles struggling to get to the top, solid thumbs width of foam slowly falls to an island leaving a few patches of lace

S tropical nose with some guava, papaya, melon, some sweet orange, bread and caramel malt. I get just a little hay and no booze whatsoever, it all sorta blends too smell like Flintstone Vitamins and gummy bears, (I love Flintstone Vitamins and gummy bears)

T more of the same really with a tropical, bready, candy like vitamin c flavor that I love for one reason or another. just a little spruce and I seriously have no idea where all the booze is hiding, very tasty stuff

M medium bodied and almost foamy from the carbonation but almost being the key word, just a little gritty on the gums and zero heat

O pretty awesome brew from a brewery I didn't know exist, great hop character and very well concealed booze, this is going down way too fast for a big beer

If I had more of this my wife would need too hide it like my mom had too hide my Flintstone Vitamins when I was little. One of the better DIPA's I've had in recent memory, thanks again Liam

Bottle from the brewery, 650ml into a tulip. ABV listed at 9.3%, bottled August 24, 2012.

Hazy darker orange, with a just offwhite cap. Excellent retention and lacing. Lovely tangerine and mango notes on the nose, fairly tropical all around. Sweet sugary malt, light pine and some mild yeast comes through (is it Belgian?). Taste has a load of honeydew melon, tangerine, mandarin orange, pine. Again, a sweet cookie dough-like malt, with some yeast flavours into the finish. Medium bitterness, but just enough the hop flavours really do shine without being overpowered. Perfect carbonation, and only the smallest suggestion of alcohol. A fantastic beer, sorta like an IIPA with a modest Belgian influence.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Well it may taste a bit like a double IPA, but it is clearly posted as a strong ale. Very smooth and clear, with chardonnay white wine and lemon citrus character. Very good, another excellent New Zealand hop for aroma and taste. Worth seeking out.Smooth, good drinkability.

A: light hazy straw, decent retention.

S: dry nose dominated by the hops-grassy, light citrus, rounded out with a refined tropical fruit aroma.

T: light malt sweetness followed by a grassy and piney middle and a bitter mildly astringent finish.

M: wonderfully dry for an IIPA. Good carbonation.

O: nice exploration of the Wakatu hops from New Zealand. Glad to try it and I enjoyed the dryness.
