Our single hop series has been a delicious and interesting experiment into the diverse world of hops. Following an identical recipe but only changing one variable each time (the hop) we've been able to study the exact aromatics and flavours imparted by specific varieties. Not unlike the series launched by Mikkeller, here at Bellwoods our Monagamy brews are all about settling down with one love. Yes, when ordering this beer in the brewpub the jokes are endless (ie. “I'm not so sure about monogamy” or “I tried monogamy once and never really liked it” or the oft hilarious “I guess I'll have it because my girlfriend/boyfriend is sitting beside me”) but stop being a wise-ass. Even the polygamous can't deny the allure of this beer.
CENTENNIAL: Refreshing grassy hop bitterness with subtle floral and tropical fruit notes.

Pours a hazy golden colour, thumb of soapy head with solid retention and sheeting lacing. Nose is heavy sweet citrus and pine. Loads of candied citrus and early pine with hints of bubblegum and mango. Medium bodied smooth and wet. A insanely drinkable APA, so glad I had a chance to try it.

cloudy deep yellow colour, lot of nice floaties, well carbonated, two fingers of fluffy head.
On the nose I get some bubble gum, light citrus as in lemon lime, light and crisp fruits.
a bit of apple cider juiciness quickly gets taken out by grassy, green wood and unripened grapefruit rind bitterness. Very green, tart and citric. Dry finish with lots of hop bitterness lingering.
Fresh and punchy but overly dominated by the hops. You get a good profile of the centennials, as the series does, but not a lot of complexity or depth beyond the hop profile. Monogamy winds up being a bit one note - relationships that last are built on variety, gotta spice it up in the bedroom a bit to keep you coming back. Enjoyable and easy drinking which can get interesting with 6.4% abv.

A nice bright orange/yellow color with a thin layer of eggshell colored head.
The nose was fairly weak with a dankness and some citrus.
A nice sharp bitterness; more so than the others in this series. Lemon, floral, lighter citrus and pine. Slight caramel sweetness.

Bottle from the brewery. Served in a Zwanze Volo 2014 glass.
A - White foam settles to a cap, collar, and loads of lace. Lightly hazed pale golden body. Darker than Jutsu, and pretty darn attractive.
S - Smells like Centennial alright; a mix of citrus and leafy hops. Pungent, perhaps a tad catty in the periphery. The usual bready Monogamy malt backdrop. Not quite as sweet as the wet-hopped version I had last year.
T - Taste is sweeter here, with juicy citrus and brown sugar malt. There's still a good deal of leafy bitterness, but it's not as astringent as the wet hop version and I think there's a tad more balance.
M - Medium-light body, moderate-to-lower carbonation, a tad gritty, with a dry finish. No obvious alcohol, as you'd expect.
D - It's fine, but it's very 2008 in terms of flavors and aesthetic. There's still some life in this hop variety, but I think fresh Two Hearted still does it best. I had no problem drinking a 500ml bottle, but I'd go for a Jutsu nine times out of ten.

On tap at bellwoods, cloudy and golden with some nice film and lace. Aroma is very reminiscent of fresh hops, grassy and citrusy, with a floral character. Really got a bit of the pine and floral from a fresh pack of hops though.
Taste has more citrus and orange character, clean and moderately bitter, nice balance to it. Some pleasant florals with a gentle spice character. Good refreshing feel to it and certainly an enjoyable showcase for this hop. Enjoyable, pleasant with a bit of fresh hoppy spice character.

On tap at Bellwoods.
Beer is blonde in colour with a moderately-sized white head. Decent retention and lacing.
Smell is simple but good. Citrus fruits is, unsurprisingly, the focus. Orange sticks out for me. Slightly floral. Hoppy and clean.
Flavour follows the nose closely. Orange citrus, a bit grassy. Not much in the way of malt- certainly a hop showcase. Fairly bitter.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation and somewhat oily.
Overall, pretty good. I preferred the version with the Summit hop, myself.
