Stoutstanding is an Export-style Stout named for our Bar Manager, Robert Stout (he loves it when you call him "Bobbi Sunshyne"). Smooth and well-balanced, with complex roast and toffee flavors, Stoutstanding is a simple interpretation of a classic style. It's brewed with English Golden Promise, crystal, black and chocolate malts, and a wee bit of molasses. Like its namesake, Stoutstanding may look a little intimidating, but is really pretty easy going after half a pint or so.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a one finger head and a nice little bubble show; squiggles and shards of lacing

Smell: Roasted malt and chocolate with a woodsy tone

Taste: Roasted malt and chocolate with a touch of toffee sweetness; dry and earthy with a touch of bitterness, after the swallow and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; slightly creamy

Overall: A fine export stout that has a touch of sweetness and a nice dry finish

Thanks, highdesertdrinker, for the opportunity

On tap at Dragoon Brewing in Tucson, AZ, pours dark brown with some tan head, smells like chocolate, some hops and dark malt, tastes like chocolate, toffee, dark malt, some bitterness but it provides a nice offset to the other flavors. Very smooth and easy to drink with nothing amiss and a 6.3 pint makes me feel like a happy man, cheers!

Poured black into a stout glass. A little reddish-brown color when held up to the light with one inch tan head. Roasted malts, toffee sweetness (just enough), hints of chocolate and only the tiniest bitterness. Tastes great and goes down pretty easy. Nice flavorful beer in a style I love. I'll be picking up some more to keep on hand.

Pours a dark brown with some ruby hues and an light tan head. Smells of toffee, roasted malts, and coffee. Tastes of lots of toffee, roasted malts, light hops, chocolate, and coffee. Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Overall it's an ok export stout but something in the flavor just doesn't do it for me.

Dark black color, medium thick tan foam. Has a nicely balanced aroma, faint roast with sweet hints of toffee and chocolate. A lighter example of the style, but it's certainly more like an Export Stout than a typical American style Stout.

Very smooth feel on the palate, moderately thick in body. The toffee notes are predominant in the flavor but it is never overdone. The dark malts give hints of chocolate but lack much roasted character. Mild bitterness in the finish, alcohol is not discernible.

This is a very solid, very drinkable Stout. I would have preferred a little more bitter/dry/toasty balance in the finish, but overall I can't really complain. Another fine offering from Dragoon.
