Oily ebony. A thin layer the color of cinnamon sugar quickly evaporates.
Rich aroma. First we have wet oak, toasty, woodsy. Chocolate and graham cracker follow. A quick swirl gives off spicy fragrances of molasses and black pepper. Whiskey is prominent, but so is the base stout.
Milk and dark chocolate, prune, vanilla, toffee, toasted coconut. The wood and whiskey are sharp; the booze is tongue-numbing. The sweeter front has all the chocolate and dark fruits, while the harsher edges of the barrel-aging really strike at the finish harsher in the back end. Lingering alcohol heat and impressive bitterness hangs on the back sides of the tongue.
Medium body, slick and oily. Coats the tongue. Booziness is big, tongue-numbing, nose-warming. Fairly low CO2.
An impressive, smooth blend of flavors. This beer takes the better parts of Dos -- which can be heavy and too rich at times -- and combines them with whiskey very well. This may be the best barrel-aged stout made in Arizona.
