Punchy off the top, perhaps from the rye barrels or the smoked malt, I don't know which. Needed some time to settle in, which it eventually did. On the palate, the rye definitely overtook the smoky porter aspects. Similar to their tequila barrel aged Saison Blue, I think I prefer the non-BA versions.

Had on tap at brew pub when visiting end of last month.
Review from notes... Decent pour with notable head but little lacing. Dark with some ruby hints to light. Overall nice impression except lack of head retention on glass. Aroma appealing with nice notes of dark roasted grain, restrained hops, boozy, and some barrel wood. Taste was a combo of an average/good porter but quickly overwhelmed by the rye/booze. Not a bad taste...just seemed to have been in the barrel too long. Mouthfeel was a bit better than standard with some cling to the tongue.
Overall seemed like a nice porter. Aging in the Rye barrels was a good idea. Probably should have been a bigger beer...maybe imperial version of Scout would work. Might be very good,

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
