It's like an average tripel.

Another selection from this year's advent calendar.
Awesome looking beer. Amazing head and lacing. Aroma mostly earthy with some interesting spice notes. Tasty stuff considering this isn't one of my favorite styles. Slightly grassy initially with some slight tardiness. Finishes with an interesting blend of bitterness and spices.
Really liked this beer. Wish there was more than one in the box.

Day 22 of my Craft Beer Advent Calendar, and I'm quite excited to try this Saison - the plan is pair it with lemongrass chicken... This poured with a substantial, foamy head that took quite a while to melt down. This is a much different take on this style of beer than I am used to, but it really grew on me as I sampled. I enjoyed the subtle fruit, smoke and pepper notes in this particular brew. It ended up more like dessert for my lemongrass meal, and it fit the bill nicely.

This poured a translucent golden straw colour with a head about three fingers thick that wouldn't dissipate. I get a bit of banana and hay on the nose with some spice and hops on the edges. Flavour is a bit different than what the nose presents. There is a bit of vegetable garden taste with a bit of maltiness around the edges of the flavour. There is also a flavour that reminds me of oak barrels and what burnt hops might taste like. The mouth feel is best described as fizzy and tends to lean toward medium bodied. My first reaction was not too excited but as I kept drinking I started to enjoy it more and only being borderline strong at 6.5% ABV I don't think it was the alcohol.

Reminds me of a triple... Seems boozier than it is.

Pours a bright orange straw with lots of fluffy white head that lingers and leaves lacing.
Nose has the characteristic Belgian yeast smell, banana, cloves, white pepper.
Taste follows nose closely. However there is a very surprising smokey flavour they I didn't pick up in the nose. In fact, the smokey flavour is quite prevelant!
Nice beer.

330ml bottle, day 22 of the 2014 Craft Beer Advent calendar. More saison, huh? Oh all right, nothing I can do about it now, I suppose.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, fizzy, and weirdly creamy eggshell white head, which leaves a few instances of sitting iceberg lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of semi-sweet grainy pale malt, a touch of caramel sweetness, white pepper, somewhat sugary clove, perky yeast, a bit of astringent citrus, and tame earthy, leafy hops. The taste is fairly funky yeast, a bit of musty barnyard, gritty pale malt, muddled earthy spice, a hint of meaty char, tart aged lemon, soap, and a peppery, leafy hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite active in its fizzy and frothy fluctuations, even after that opening salvo, the body on the light side of medium weight, and not particularly smooth, as yeast and spice alike seem to butt heads, leaving my palate stunned as a side effect. It finishes rather dry, the initial malt sweetness flailing, with the spice, yeast, funk, and alcohol getting all hedonistic, and such.
A bit of a disjointed version of the style, all the normal subtle essences kicked up to varying degrees, which results in a somewhat challenging offering to actually drink. I suppose, it being winter and all, we should expect stuff like this, but I've had better, more recently, and oh, screw it - "we're leaving tooogeeether, but still it's farewell..."
