Got this one at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam.
Blend of young and old Lindemans lambic, two different older Mort Subite lambics and some Girardin 2006. Blended together with Brouwerij Frontaal with the help of Beerotica Beer Tastings.
From a 50cl swing top, scotch taped bottle into a tasting glass. Split three ways.
Best Before I die
APPEARANCE: Pours a small white head that quickly fades down to a ring only. Clear gamboge orange in color with almost no carbonation evident. Finishes mostly flat looking.
SMELL: Lots of hay and barnyard funk with some lemon notes and some hints of vinegar.
TASTE: A bit watery up front actually, with some barnyard notes and a bit of funk. A bit lifeless through the middle, then some more flavor comes out after the swallow with some funky notes, sour and tart lemon, citrus flavors, and then some acidity and a good dose of vinegar at the back that just keeps coming and coming. Way worse than the nose had indicated. This is tough to get down.
PALATE: Medium body and lower levels of carbonation for a gueuze. A bit watery perhaps, goes down fine and finishes quite dry. Lots of acidity and vinegar linger.
OVERALL: Well, they certainly got the name right. As much as I love the guys involved in this project, I just can't finish this one. None of us could, and Drain got more of its fair share. Too bad. Just too acidic and too much vinegar in my face for me to enjoy it. Heart burn set on pretty quickly as well. If there's anyone I'd trust with sours, it's the guys at Beerotica, so I hope they go about trying something like this again. Dop and Frontaal are class acts too, so better luck next time.
