12oz can poured into a standard pint glass.
Pours a darker copper color with a good sized wheat colored head on it.
Low on the hop aroma for something that claims over 100ibu.
Malty start but not overly sweet like so many DIPAs. Piney, resiny finish. Not overly viscous mouthfeel which I find refreshing for a 9.5% beer. Definitely notice the hops but no real heat from the alcohol level. Cola undertones in the finish.
Overall, an interesting DIPA that might warrant another sometime but not tonight.

Revisited 11/29/16
There was no canning or best-by dating on the can, yet the smell, taste, and feel are better than with my first review (May 19, 2015).
The aroma is deeper, zestier; the taste has more malt depth and bitter, spicy bite; the flavor fuller and more balanced, richer.

The body appears copper-orange; slightly hazy; creamy, dense; rocky head. Pine and citrus hop aroma. Lemon and grapefruit flavors; very bitter. Medium body; coarse feel with carbonation; mostly dry finish.
A decent imperial IPA yet it suffers from weakness in most areas except looks. The aroma is rather faint, the flavor mostly dominated by hop flavors, and the mouthfeel comes across somewhat thin and fizzy. Still, it has a nice juicy, citrus like quality that slightly elevates its appeal. Not bad but kind of half-baked.

12 oz can. Pours hazy reddish tea color with a medium creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts, fruit, a little cola, with some perfumey piney hops.
The flavor is sweet caramel malts and fruit with a big piney resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation and a bit watery.
Overall, a nice DIPA, but a little on the sweet side.

Poured from a can into one of my favorite snifters.
First off, if you're a hop-head, this beer is for you. This is a very bitter brew, especially as it warms up. Citrus, pepper and pine are the major theme. They dominate the beer in the nose and on the tongue. A lightly roasted malt backbone brings very little sweetness to offset the bitterness of the hops. The bitterness lingers nicely through the finish. A medium-heavy body with just about the right fizz rounds things out.
To be honest, if someone handed me this and asked me to guess the style, I'd say American Barleywine, as Hemlock reminds me a lot of Avery Hog Heaven. But, styles be damned in this case. Overall, a nice little beer that doesn't quite stand out from the pack.
