33 fl oz bottle, poured cold into a kitchen glass in Toulouse, FR.
Right to the point - smells like Budweiser. And there is no Cuba, no rum, no rum flavor. At all. Sweet. Fizzy. Bonus point for being refreshing on a 94° day in the south of France. No more no more.

Anheuser-Busch “Cubanisto”
33 cl clear glass bottle without freshess dating as the back label is missing.
Notes via stream of consciousness: The neck label reads “NEW. -30% CALORIES *” It’s a lightly hazy gold in color beneath a finger’s width of white foam. The aroma is sweet and semi beer-like. I’m not sure what exactly is going on with the rest of it but I assume it’s the rum flavoring. On to the taste then, it’s sweet and fruity but I’m not really getting rum. Just as in the aroma there’s something there but I’m not sure what it is. If this is so sweet I wouldn’t want to find out what the higher calorie version tastes like. I should also note that the label reads 5.8% ABV. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and smooth. To me this isn’t really a rum flavored beer as much as it is a malternative.

Had that one time at a party back in the day. I have had a wicked lot of beers from these guys, most of which are not at all good whatsoever, this included.

Review: 500ml bottle of Cubanisto: 5.9% vol.
This “rum flavoured beer” comes in an interesting can, deep purple colour, with a menacing looking skull, looks interesting and stands out. Does come in bottles as well and apparently the logo glows under UV lightning making it stand out at night, all part of the marketing schtick, the spookiest beer out there……..which also I imagine looks interesting for the nighthawks in a club.
Described by AB InBev’s marketing gurus as “inspired by the vibrant spirit of the Caribbean…with a fresh taste of citrus, orange zest and lime, accentuated by the aroma of caramalised cane sugar and treacle”. A Cuban style lager with rum from the island of Youth.
They also add “Remember Cubanisto rewards the curious and favours the bold”, whatever the fuck that means. It’s just a beer at the end of the day!
On the pour I am getting a nice golden coloured beer with a very small white head. Not so hot in the appearance, flat, disappointing even.
As expected getting the sweet fruits on the nose and, of course, the rum, the rum, the rum………..not bad
For the taste it is very fruity, and very sweet as well. Bit of a citrusy flavour off it. Also can definitely taste the rum for sure.
Nice and tasty beer to relax on a hot day.
The alcohol is very well hidden, barely noticeable, so easy to drink it doesn’t feel like a beer at all. Some trick considering its 5.9% vol.
Overall it’s all fruits, the lemon n lime, the orange, and don’t forget the rum, all very sweet and sugary but it is ok to drink. Not brilliant but nice enough for a few in the summer.
Never tasted like a beer, more like a sweet fruit juice with a slight kick. Not too bad, but not sure if I’d be bothered to buy again though. I do like to taste alcohol in my alcohol!

I had this beer while I was visiting Belgium. I’m not a beer drinker because it tends to make me nauseous, but I took it upon myself to try as much beer while in Europe as I could. I got this one because there was a happy hour deal where the bar I was at was selling it for €2 a bottle — it was the best beer I’ve ever had. If you read the other reviews about it’s flavor profile, they’re pretty spot on so I don’t need to be redundant on that. I’m not big on sweet cocktails, but I do love sweet beers because it masks the wheaty hoppy taste that most beers usually have. So I recommend this for individuals who aren’t beer fans, but tend to do well with sweet beers.

Clear 330 ml bottle, from a store in London. ABV is 5.9%. Pale golden color, moderate white head. Hints of rum and oak in the aroma. Sweet and sugary flavour, hints of rum, but mostly sugar all the way. Awful.

From Carrefour. In Teku glass. Playing Oceanhorn. Not much rum here but more the other members of a caipiriña. Mostly lime and sugar. Fine but rather bland

500ml aluminum can from a Monteprix supermarket in Paris. "Rum Flavoured Beer."
A: No head. Copper body.
Sm: Sugary and sweet. Artificial lime, Desper(ate)ados-redolent saccharine malts, pale malt sweetness.
Suggests an abysmal imbalanced brew, but one admittedly devoid of off-notes.
Aromatic intensity is average.
T: Artificial lime, pale malt sweetness...nah, that's it. At least there's no artificial rum/sugarcane. This tastes nothing like rum, and a lot like awful.
Mf: Smooth, wet, unrefreshing, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, slightly sticky....not terrible, actually. No, it doesn't accentuate specific notes from the flavour profile, but it's not poorly executed. Fails to elevate the beer as a whole, but I've had stickier more syrupy beers. I can imagine it worse.
O: Okay, the brewers failed at creating a rum-flavoured beer (or at least an authentic one). But it's drinkable and it's not terrible. It would be easy to make this beer an Anheuser-Busch brewed punching bag beer, but frankly it's not all that bad. I wouldn't buy it again at Parisian prices, but we've all had worse. Not terrible, but not worth buying.
High C- (2.75) / BELOW AVERAGE
