Beer #1 during an Anheuser-Busch Specialty Brewing Group tasting, for originalbeers.com

Rich brown in color with ruby hues and a healthy sticking lace. At first, a very clean aroma, with soft toasty malts pulling through as the beer warms.

Medium-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. This brew has malty legs, with rich and complex flavors that range from bready, toasty, touch of caramel sweetness, raisins and a hint of chocolate. The full malt experience is balanced and complemented by a dry, acrid quality from the use of Black malts, while leafy hop characters and lingering hop oils round things out. Finish is ultra-clean.

I was quite impressed with this interpretation of a Brown Ale, especially its robust and complex malt profile. It could easily stand-up to many popular Brown Ales of its ilk. Dogfish Head's Indian Brown Ale came to mind during the tasting.

On tap at the Bell In Hand Tavern - Boston, MA.

Bold reddish amber color, good head retention. Super malty with a balanced sweet / toasty character. Mild hoppiness tries to compete with layers of maltiness, clean and complex. Clean warming alcohol has suggestions of white raisins and pepper. Hint of herbal hop in the back. Pretty damn impressive ...
