So close… But yet there is more!
Climbing mountains is not the most exciting thing,
Hours on trail, scree, and snow.
But False Summit brings you more!
We took an American Amber Ale
and dry hopped it, leaving the malty,
caramel goodness behind with a
huge hoppy, caramel aroma

From a can. Pours an orangish amber with several fingers of thick off-white foam; slightly hazy. Smells of toast and caramel. The flavor is pithy hops and toasted malt. Medium bodied.

From a can from a beer club. Poured with a foot-tall head. Tastes exactly like they planned - a nice caramel backbone with a pale ale level of piney hops. If it were available nearby, I would always have it in the house.

Appearance: Pours an amber-tan body with a little haziness to it. Good-sized, frothed, lightly yellowed head. Decent lacing.
Smell: A light malty scent of toasty breadcrusts, some sweetish light brown sugar with lemon-orange, black tea notes.
Taste: A dry toasty maltiness with a little taste of brown sugar though not too much in the way of sweetness. A fruity orangey citrus vibe and some background tea leaf herbal tones. Medium bitterness. Lingering hoppiness with some nutty, toasty accents on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A decent amber ale.

From a bom club. Pour left a nice thick light tan foam cap covering an amber body. Scent is on the malty side with caramel, toffee, and a bit of piney/spiced hop rounding it out. Taste comes across more bitter than the scent with the caramel and toffee notes playing second to a nutty and piney flavor. A lingering bitterness exists in the aftertaste which more-or-less matches the taste.

A Microbrewed Club offering. Pours a dark red color with a minimal head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of spices and roasted malts. Taste is tangy with a slight bitterness at the finish.

i dont think ill ever be a guy who gets too excited about a basic amber ale, but this is a solid beer from these guys, one of their more popular and consistent from what i can gather, and a beer i would be happy to drink a number of in any given session, especially this time of year where a little more malt character and body in a beer is a welcome thing. this is ruby red in the right light, clear and radiant even, and with a lasting airy burlap colored head from the tap, this is on all over town in sun valley. deep toasted grain here, richer than most without being any sweeter, some english crystal character, toffee, bran, even a wink of hazelnut to me. lots of minerals coming through here and a clean fermentation profile really lets the malts do the talking, although there is some hop bitterness on the back end here, more than is needed for balance, makes this nice and robust overall. baked character, raisin, dried red fruits, toasted hearth bread, and maple notes too. medium bodied but potentially a little filling with a meal, hearty as they go, less sugary in the end, and pretty distinct as a basic american amber goes, i could pick this out from a crowd for sure. say what you want about the style being boring, but this beer isnt, and from a quality standpoint, its very well done. perfect fall daytime sipper.

T: Still malty, refreshing and slightly bitter (31 ibu).
F: Moderate body, lingers a bit on the way out,
O: Great amber, love how it looks.

On tap at Velocio. Hazy dark amber body, small, lasting foamy beige head. Malt is most noticeable aroma. Malts ever present in taste also, mildly sweet, with a nice bitter snap at the finish. Not too sweet, not too bitter.
