a lager dosed with green and glitter for st pattys day, a bit much no matter how you slice it, like the chemical coloring is dominant, but there is a little european crackery grain thing underneath that, just dont know why people need green beer, sure its fun, but it definitely makes whatever beer this is worse, without a doubt, but it is pretty too, swirling sparkles and a deep wildly unnatural green color, but as these go, its decently attractive, nails the color of the holiday and the glitter, while somewhat inconsistent, does what its supposed to do, lots of movement and shine, not much head, but certainly commands attention anyway. it was listed at 4.9% abv where i had it, on tap in idaho falls, big irish scene out there apparently. i do smell and taste a little pils type malt, which keeps this from being utterly gross, but its also then somewhat heavier, or at least fuller character than is common in the kinds of beers we usually see dyed green, so its slightly challenging in that regard, like part of my brain wants to honor that and take it seriously as a craft offering, the other part of my brain sees the green and just wishes for grain neutrality, these guys make a few pale lager base beers, not sure which this one is, or if its its own thing, but to me it does lean european, even german. the flavor has some dye to it, i know i am sensitive to artificial color, so maybe that wont be everyones experience, but its distracting even before the glitter comes in, which i just dont want in my body, an odd thing to say as i actively consume alcohol, but it feels like, extra bad for me somehow. that said, its not bad as these go really, carbonation is there, its not watery, and as distracting as the color and glitter are, it doesnt make me hate it. novelty beer of course, but i get why bars are buying it and why people drink it once a year, beer is supposed to be fun right? credit these guys for keeping it that way.
